Masai Mara Wildebeest Migration Safari

The 6-Day Masai Mara Safari offers an incredible opportunity to witness the spectacular Great Migration across the vast plains of the Masai Mara National Reserve. Between July and September, more than 1.5 million wildebeests, together with thousands of Grant’s gazelles and plains zebras, make their annual journey from Tanzania’s Serengeti across the Mara River into Kenya’s Masai Mara.
Available during the peak migration period from mid-June to October, this Masai Mara safari follows the massive herds as they travel in search of fresh grazing and water. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to witness the dramatic river crossings, where crocodiles wait beneath the water while predators patrol the riverbanks in search of prey.

Full Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi → Masai Mara
After breakfast at your Nairobi hotel or upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, meet your safari guide for a brief orientation before a roughly five-hour drive to Masai Mara National Reserve. En route, pause at a Rift Valley viewpoint to admire the escarpment panorama. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch and check-in. Later, embark on an afternoon game drive to spot lions, topi, waterbuck, warthogs, hartebeests, and other plain-dwelling species. Return for dinner and an overnight stay
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drives in Masai Mara
After breakfast, depart with a packed lunch for a full-day game drive, exploring the reserve from morning until evening in search of elephants, leopards, buffaloes, black rhinos, and a variety of other plains wildlife. Continue to the Mara River to witness migrating herds crossing crocodile-filled waters while predators wait along the riverbanks. Enjoy a picnic lunch beneath the shade of acacia trees before continuing your afternoon game viewing. Return to your lodge at sunset for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Tracking the Great Migration
Spend two full days exploring the Masai Mara while following the movements of the migrating herds across the reserve. After an early breakfast, head into the wilderness with packed picnic lunches to enjoy at scenic bush locations. Witness large groups of wildebeests, Grant’s gazelles, Burchell’s zebras, and other herbivores as they move across the plains, while predators such as lions, hyenas, cheetahs, and jackals follow closely behind. In the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and a relaxing overnight stay.
Day 5: Masai Mara to Lake Naivasha
After breakfast, leave the Masai Mara and travel to Lake Naivasha. Upon arrival, check in at your accommodation and enjoy lunch before heading out for an afternoon boat ride to Crescent Island. Explore the island, where you can spot wildlife such as elands, impalas, waterbucks, giraffes, and other resident species grazing freely alongside large numbers of flamingos. After the visit, return to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 6: Masai Mara to Nairobi
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, then depart for Nairobi, stopping en route for lunch. Arrive by mid-afternoon for drop-off at your hotel or airport—concluding your six-day Masai Mara vacation filled with epic wildlife spectacles and Tanzania-bordering plains adventure.
