Walking Safari in Arusha National Park

Day Trip

Discover Nature on Foot

Step Into the Wild

A Walking Safari in Arusha National Park with ASTRO SAFARIS offers an unmatched opportunity to connect with Tanzania’s landscapes at ground level. Unlike game drives, a walking safari invites you to see, hear, smell, and feel the wild in its most intimate form.

Accompanied by an expert guide and an armed park ranger, this immersive day tour leads you through the lush forests, open grasslands, and scenic foothills of Mount Meru. Arusha National Park is one of the few parks in Tanzania where walking safaris are permitted, making this experience both unique and authentic.

As you walk, expect to encounter giraffes, zebras, warthogs, colobus monkeys, buffaloes, and countless birds—without the hum of engines or barriers between you and nature. Perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and adventurous souls, this walking safari reveals details often missed on wheels.

Day Trip Itinerary

07:00 AM – Hotel Pick-Up and Drive to Arusha National Park

Begin your day with a scenic drive through the Tanzanian countryside to the gates of Arusha National Park. Along the way, enjoy views of rural villages and the distant peaks of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro.

08:00 AM – Park Entry, Briefing & Meet Your Ranger

Arrive at the park, complete formalities, and meet your armed ranger. Your guide will explain safety protocols and the plan for your walking route—typically around the Momella area or the Ngurdoto Crater rim, depending on the conditions and wildlife activity.

08:30 AM – Walking Safari Begins

Step into the wild for a 2–3-hour guided walk. During the safari, you’ll:

  • Walk through open savannah and forested trails
  • Spot giraffes grazing in silence
  • Observe black-and-white colobus monkeys leaping between trees
  • Learn about medicinal plants, animal tracks, and bird calls
  • Visit scenic areas like waterfalls or volcanic craters

Feel the terrain beneath your feet and engage all your senses as you explore the park like the animals do.

11:30 AM – Picnic Break in the Wild

Stop at a scenic clearing for a light bush picnic with sandwiches, fresh fruit, and refreshments. Enjoy the serenity of your surroundings and maybe even spot wildlife in the distance while you dine.

12:00 PM – Leisure Nature Walk or Optional Game Drive (if arranged)

Depending on your preference, you may continue with a shorter walk to explore different parts of the park—or embark on a short, optional game drive to reach areas like the Momella Lakes, known for flamingos and waterbirds.

01:30 PM – Visit to the Ngurdoto Museum or Viewpoint (Optional)

Take a short break to visit a park viewpoint overlooking the lush Ngurdoto Crater or stop by a small museum to learn about the region’s geology and wildlife.
