Day Trip Itinerary

06:30 AM – Pick-Up from Arusha or Moshi Hotel

Your day begins with a morning pick-up by your ASTRO SAFARIS guide in a comfortable safari vehicle. Depart from Arusha (2.5 hrs) or Moshi (1 hr) and enjoy the scenic drive through rural landscapes and Chagga villages, with early views of Mount Kilimanjaro—weather permitting.

08:30 AM – Arrive at Marangu Gate (1,860 meters / 6,102 ft)

At the entrance to Kilimanjaro National Park, your guide will handle registration while you prepare for the hike. The air is fresh, and the forest buzzes with life. After a short briefing, begin your guided trek along the famed Marangu Route.

09:00 AM – Begin Guided Hike through the Rainforest Zone

Enter the thick rainforest, home to colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and a variety of birds. The trail is well-maintained, gently ascending with moss-covered trees and rich flora all around. Your guide will point out unique plants, wildlife, and explain Kilimanjaro’s ecosystems.

11:30 AM – Arrive at Mandara Hut (2,700 meters / 8,858 ft)

After approximately 3–4 hours of hiking, reach Mandara Hut, a popular resting point for multi-day trekkers. Enjoy a break here with stunning views and, if skies are clear, a distant look at Mawenzi Peak—Kilimanjaro’s rugged secondary summit.

Optional: Walk a short distance to the Maundi Crater, a viewpoint offering sweeping vistas toward Kenya and the surrounding forests.

12:30 PM – Picnic Lunch at Mandara Hut

Enjoy a well-packed lunch provided by ASTRO SAFARIS while relaxing in the alpine surroundings. Share stories with fellow hikers, take photos, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.

01:30 PM – Begin Descent to Marangu Gate

Start your descent back through the forest. The return walk is faster, but still filled with opportunities to observe wildlife and the changing light filtering through the canopy.

03:30 PM – Arrive Back at Marangu Gate

Your hike concludes at the park gate. Receive a certificate of participation—a special keepsake from your Kilimanjaro experience. You’ll have time to browse local souvenir stalls or grab a coffee before departure.
